Always this ironic comments in the videos. Geez... for whatever reason you need to take a photo with your SMARTPHONE, when much better compact cameras are available... Now why not taking photos with a tablet if you just have it in your hand while working on a video or blog post and just need to take a picture of something? Totally unnecessary pun. I'm very glad they put at least an 8MP camera on the back. Too bad it's not a better one.

First, it isn't a Surface go competitor. It is more targeted more towards the iPad Pro. Chrome OS is good for only if you just stick to web/Android base apps. For photo/video editing or for creators iPad/Surface is still a way better product. Frankly, it is great for people like my mom who mainly uses email, browse the web, media so I don't have to worry about viruses or tech support. I'm not sure who this is targeting with the high price for which I'd rather just buy a laptop that is more useful.

Cobamernani456 Yes but no one in their right mind would do so. With my PixelBook. I can connect to a 4K monitor, (extend the desktop giving me two displays to work on), has native support for a mouse, keyboard, USB printer/scanner, external HD, Wacom drawing board, etc. Moving files around is extremely easy and a pleasure, iPad has the worst file-management I’ve ever used on a computer, bar none. Basically, using an iPad feels like you are forcing a tablet to stream a desktop OS on it, where as a ChromeBook feels as if the software you a streaming was actually installed and being used locally.

Vor 18 Tage
Cobamernani456
Cobamernani456

Though the iPad cannot run Linux, it is in fact capable of streaming your desktop like in Citrix. There are many apps which allow you to do this.

Vor 18 Tage
Charles Alden
Charles Alden

You are forgetting that this can run Linux applications natively. I run for example run Davinci Resolve, the full version and it's pretty fast. I can also stream applications using Citrix, which runs applications as if they were installed. I can also stream full desktop applications through the web using one of many such services like rollapp.com. The iPad cannot do any of this, these Chrome machines are actually more powerful than most know.

You're not running apps like photoshop on a celeron either. I know that Chrome OS can run linux, but good luck downloading anything with that 64gb base storage w/out a micro sd card slot. The surface isn't as slow as you say. Here's a professional review:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p48ZC3MRmow&t=95s Also the surface can run games pretty well. Search up Josher14's gaming review. The Chromebooks can run linux, but It's not officially out to all capable devices yet, like my chromebook pro, and the surface doesn't need another OS to run apps, just upgrade to windows 10 home once, and you're ready to install full fledged apps.

Why would this not have LTE? -iPad pro user who hates iOS. Tethering is quite inconvenient in many situations and is outright impossible in some. Not to mention tethering usually has more restrictive terms and conditions than having a dedicated connection on the account because carriers tend to like more money.

The Metropolis I've actually already got the SB1 and thought pretty hard about doing just that considering I could certainly afford it if I sold off the iPad and book. The only thing really stopping me is windows. It's honestly just not a good tablet OS because of things such as the clunky UI controls and the mostly empty uwp app ecosystem. ChromeOS definitely has a good ways to go (especially on the desktop experience front when compared to the Windows) but I'd say just having Android apps and a full desktop version of chrome makes for a pretty good argument for buying in early. Here's to hoping LTE gets added? Lol

It's a beta product, the same thing happened when they did the review of the PixelBook. Everyone who saw the video said it looked laggy, it's not, these samples do not have hardware exceleration turned on by default. If the reviewer had read the release notes, he could have turned it on himself, it's a simple switch in the settings. Don't worry, this will be fast, actually even faster than the iPad Pro and with a full desktop browser. I love my PixelBook, it's fast, bullet-proof (like it never, ever crashes), I have all of my favorite Linux applications installed, I'm even running Photoshop under Wine and it's awesome. Though my favorite thing about it is, I can stream all of my games using the Stream Link app for Android, even when on LTE, which is the best part about living in Switzerland, fast LTE, my connection is pushing 400 Mbps.
